How Aromatherapy Works ￼

1. By entering the bloodstream through the skin by means of massage, a bath, rubbing, acupressure, etc.
2. By entering the bloodstream through the lining of the lungs by inhalation or vaporization. The scent of the oils affects the limbic system in the brain via the olfactory tract. Scent affects the autonomic nervous system and the hormonal system. Once in the bloodstream the medicinal properties of the oils can go to work.
Each essential oil has its own particular scent and affect, whether uplifting, soothing, refreshing, medicinal or a combination of these.
Some of the properties of different essential oils include: analgesic, antiseptic, expectorant, tonic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, balsamic, decongestant, sedative, anti-rheumatic, diuretic, insecticide, stimulant, anti-depressant, aphrodisiac, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, hypertensive, vulnerary.

Blended Oils can be . . .
*dabbed behind the ears, on the wrists and under the nose, like perfume.
*dripped on a small piece of cotton and worn in a pendant
*used in any essential oil diffuser
*added to a bath
*added to the water in a vaporizer
*massaged into the skin
*dabbed onto a small piece of cotton and placed in the filter of a vacuum cleaner
*dripped onto a washcloth and hung in the shower, or wadded up in the corner of a shower
*rubbed on the bottom of the feet. From the reflex points on the feet the oils can penetrate every part of the body easily.
Bath Salts can be added to a bath to absorb essential oils in through the skin as well as through the olfactory nerves through scent.
Salt Scents offer a convenient way to absorb the medicinal properties of essential oils into the system through the olfactory nerve. Simply open the canister and smell, then close the canister. Or leave it open on a desk or where you study, sleep or meditate.
